ALLY 400: Almirola gains first Cup pole in track history

Aric Almirola gained a bit of history on Sunday as he earned the pole position for the “Ally 400” NASCAR Cup Series race at Nashville Superspeedway.

Almirola, driving the No. 10 Ford for Stewart-Haas Racing, turned a lap of 161.992 mph (29.557 seconds) on the 1.33-mile concrete track for his third career pole. Almirola was the second of the 39 drivers to make a qualifying attempt.

Kyle Busch, the winner of Saturday’s “Tennessee Lottery 250” NASCAR Xfinity Series race, qualified second, followed by Joey Logano and Hendrick Motorsports teammates William Byron and Kyle Larson.

Green flag for today’s Ally 400 is set for just after 2:30 p.m.
