Ally 400 Qualifying: Denny Hamlin on pole

Denny Hamlin, driving the No. 11 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing, won the pole for Sunday’s Ally 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Nashville Superspeedway on Saturday.

Hamlin posted a speed of 160.413 mph (29.848 seconds) on the 1.3-mile concrete track to earn his 35th career pole and second of the season.

“It was a great run for us,” Hamlin said.

The green flag for Sunday’s Ally 400 is set for just after 4 p.m. CT.

Joey Logano qualified in the second spot, followed by defending race champion Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott in fourth and Daniel Suarez in fifth.

Kyle Busch spun during his qualifying lap, tagged the wall with the rear of his No. 18 Toyota and did not post a speed. Busch will start 36th and last in Sunday’s race.

Aric Almirola set the NASCAR Cup Series qualifying mark at Nashville last year with a lap of 161.992 mph (29.557 seconds).
