LEBANON, Tenn. — Nashville Superspeedway is turning 25.
On April 13, Middle Tennessee's home for motorsports and entertainment marks a quarter-century since first opening its gates in 2001, when Greg Biffle won the inaugural NASCAR Xfinity Series race on a concrete oval that would go on to host some of the biggest names in American motorsports.
To celebrate, the track will offer special anniversary offers during the week of April 13 for the Cracker Barrel 400 NASCAR Cup Series race weekend (May 29-31).
Construction on Nashville Superspeedway began Aug. 26, 1999, under the leadership of Dover Motorsports, with the vision of bringing top-tier racing to the Nashville area. Less than two years later, the track roared to life and quickly established itself as one of the most unique facilities in motorsports -- a 1.33-mile D-shaped concrete oval about 30 miles east of downtown Nashville.
The track's concrete surface -- the largest of any oval on the NASCAR circuit -- presented a distinct challenge for competitors from Day 1, creating grip conditions that shift as a race unfolds and rewarding drivers who can adapt. Winners at Nashville Superspeedway have long taken home a hand-painted Gibson Les Paul guitar as their trophy, a nod to the musical heritage of the city that shares the track's name.
After a prolific early run, Dover Motorsports ceased major racing operations at the facility in December 2011 amid the absence of a premier NASCAR event. During the years that followed, the track found a second life as a high-speed testing facility for automotive manufacturers while the racing world waited for its return.
In June 2020, Dover Motorsports announced that a NASCAR Cup Series race would relocate to Nashville. After a decade-long pause, the premier series arrived in Middle Tennessee in June 2021 for the first Cup Series race in track history. The event sold out -- a statement that racing's revival in Music City was anything but a quiet affair.
Nashville Superspeedway has welcomed five NASCAR Cup Series races, 26 NASCAR Xfinity Series events, 18 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competitions and 10 INDYCAR Series races -- including the 2024 and 2025 INDYCAR championship finales. Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, Ross Chastain, Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney have all claimed Cup Series victories at the track.
Beyond NASCAR, the facility cemented its place in open-wheel history by hosting IndyCar legends including Gil de Ferran, Tony Kanaan, Dario Franchitti and three-time Nashville winner Scott Dixon. Dixon set the all-time qualifying record with a lap of 206.211 mph in July 2003 -- a mark that still stands.
The best way to mark 25 years is to be there for what comes next. The Cracker Barrel 400 NASCAR Cup Series race weekend runs May 29-31, featuring three days of NASCAR racing and High-Speed Honky Tonk entertainment.
In honor of the anniversary, special ticket offers will be available during the week of April 13. Fans are encouraged to visit NashvilleSuperspeedway.com for details.
